HB INSPIRED: THE WHOLE TARANovember 14, 2014 2:16 pm
When Tara Milhem launched her site SkinnyByTara.com she knew she was taking a risk by including the “S” word in her site’s name. She knew that the word “skinny” wasn’t always viewed in a positive light, but it was when she made a shift in her own life that she decided to change her brand saying, “I decided to roll out with TheWholeTara to show people that you can live a healthy, happy life and still enjoy all of the things around you without taking on any extremes when it comes to food, exercise or body image.” And that’s something we can totally get on board with!
Tara knows that women struggle with self-image, acknowledging that, especially today, “girls are constantly comparing themselves to others – namely Instagram celebs and photo shopped magazine covers – thinking that’s the norm. What people don’t realize is that people post is only their highlight reel.” TheWholeTara actively tries to disengage from the “highlight reel mentality and encourage women to focus on being the best you and no one else. It’s about being real and authentic, a mindset us HBfit-girls certainly can and should embrace.
Tara’s site transformation and message is inspiring for a number of reasons, but here are a few. Tara is a certified yoga instructor and has a wonderful philosophy about her practice. She explains that she “doesn’t have rules – as long as I’m moving and sitting in the pose the way I feel best, I’m happy.” She also makes an incredible egg – if you haven’t checked out her Instagram @thewholetara feed, it’s not only full of incredible quotes, but super yummy pictures of the healthy meals she whips up. I couldn’t resist asking her how she makes the perfect egg – something she laughed at saying, “I’ve been told by quite a few people that I make great eggs, but never even knew it until I started posting my breakfasts!”
Tara’s Perfect Egg
Lightly coat the pan with avocado oil. Crack a few eggs onto a heated pan, add a pinch of salt and pepper for taste. Cover the pan for about 5-6 minutes, the yolk should be runny and the whites should be cooked through. Serve with a light drizzle of olive oil. Voila!
