October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and here at HBFIT, we’ll be spending the whole month educating ourselves about the cause and celebrating the theme of empowerment. We love that so many of our favorite boutique fitness studios around NYC are holding special events and classes for breast cancer awareness. We’ve decided to round up some of these great local events happening at studios around the city, so you can join us in sweating for a good cause. Be sure to check them out and sign up!
Barry’s Boot Camp
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Barry’s NYC will be hosting a very special charity class and VIP reception at their UES studio on October 29th. Class will be “team taught” by Natalie Raitano and Matty Maggiacomo with music by DJ Aaron Aanenson. Following class there will be a VIP reception for all class participants. All proceeds donated to the Dubin Breast Center of The Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai. Tickets to the VIP reception only, also available for purchase here.
Crunch Goes Pink
Crunch is taking your workout to new heights. Help them raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by joining them at One World Observatory for breathtaking views and 2 killer workouts, Yoga and Pound. After your sweat, unwind with on-site massages, get primp and prime with post-workout beauty fixes, refuel with healthy treats and more. SOLD OUT
YG is hosting a Pink Party at their 17th street location on October 13th to support breast cancer awareness. For $56, you’ll get two fitness classes at YG Studios and entry to this awesome dance party. Plus, a portion of the proceeds will go toward the Keep A Breast Foundation, so you can dance the night away knowing you’re helping out a great cause. There will also be a silent auction and a raffle to raise additional funds for the foundation.
On October 7th and 8th, The Fhitting Room will be partnering up with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in their Move to Cure initiative. There will be one class held at each of their locations on these days that will be donating 100% of their profits to the cause. So, whether you’re uptown or downtown, you can join The Fhitting Room in their super fun, important, powerful movement to raise funds for cancer research. One of their amazing instructors, Dennys Lozada, is a breast cancer survivor himself, and he’ll be teaching one of the classes!
Soul Cycle is hosting numerous charity rides all month long, hosted by various breast cancer organizations, such as Susan G. Komen, The Pink Agenda, Bright Pink, and BCRF, so make sure you check with local studios to see when the rides will be happening! In an extra effort to educate their riders, Soul Cycle will be hanging “Save Your Soul Facts” shower hang tags in the locker rooms, educating women on self-examinations.
On October 22nd, Pure Yoga’s Upper East Side location will be hosting a breast cancer awareness charity class with teacher Terrence Monte. The suggested donation is $30, and all of the proceeds will go to benefit the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to fund breast cancer research.
Well & Good’s Fitness Biathlon
For the fourth year in a row, Well & Good will be hosting their Fitness Biathlon on October 22nd, where you’ll be able to take two back-to-back classes at boutique studios around the city. The event raises money for the Young Survival Coalition, so you’ll be sweating it out for an inspiring cause. There are so many great options for various studios to sign up for, and tickets to the event are on sale now.
Exceed Physical Culture
Exceed’s master trainer, Mike Jock, is hosting the ThROWdown III: Row & Strength Relay Challenge this year on October 29th at their UES location and November 5th at their Tribeca location. The relay challenge requires a team of four to compete, and you’ll have a great time drinking beer while working out. There will even be complimentary juices from Organic Avenue afterwards to refuel. The best part—all of the proceeds go to the Mount Sinai Dubin Breast Center!
Yoga For a Cause at Athleta
On every Saturday for the entire month, Athleta’s Flatiron location will be hosting yoga classes at 1PM with optional donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. While you’re there, you can add a personalized petal to their inspiring Breast Cancer Awareness Wall along with your donation to the cause. If you’re shopping in the store or just find yourself nearby and can’t make it to the yoga class, you can still stop by and lend your support!
Barry’s Upper East Side Studio will be hosting a special charity class and VIP reception on October 29th.
