On Instagram you’ll catch me boxing, lifting weights or doing pilates. Even though I love an adventure, when it comes to working out, I have to be honest–running isn’t part of my routine. I love the theory of running, the idea of being able to just go–where you want, when you want–but when it comes to actually getting into stride, I get nervous.

Spotify recently launched their “Spotify Running” feature which allows their users to choose a music genre and then matches the tempo with their pace. It helps people think less about their pace and more about the music–allowing them to zone out completely. Since this seemed perfect for a runner like me (someone who over thinks the act of running), I decided to partner with Spotify to give it a try.

I designed my intention to be two-fold–not only would I get over my fear of running, but I would also be able to discover my favorite NYC neighborhoods in a new way. I mapped out a route, tracing all the spots that I don’t frequent enough

Thankfully the whole experience is super user-friendly–find #SpotifyRunning by tapping the “Running” button on the home screen. You then select your favorite genre and get going!

My favorite Spotify Running playlist is Night Rush. I’m not really into EDM when I’m working out, and Jock Jams/Oldies are fun every once in awhile, but I prefer working out to music that I would typically listen to anyways, but has a consistent beat to keep me on pace. I like that this playlist has artists like Haim and CHVRCHES!

  • Taylor November 3, 2015

My favorite Spotify running playlist is their fun run! I too love all different workouts like yoga, weightlifting and even cycling but running more than a 5k has never been something I have been great at. The fun run has great upbeat songs that I can sing along to while running to keep my motivation up and to not compete with myself, just enjoy the run!

  • Alexandra November 3, 2015

My favorite spotify running playlist is Burn by Tiesto! Gets my heart pumping with the sickest beats.

  • Amber November 3, 2015

My favorite Spotify Running Playlist is “Mid Tempo > 140” because I like to feel as if I’m one with the beat and in my own music video. The playlist makes me forget I’m not even running and at the end I get a great workout!

  • Miatta November 3, 2015

I absolutely LOVE the Running Tracks (Filtr UK) Spotify playlist. Perfect blend of turn up tunes + music from my favorite female phenoms (JLo, Britney B*tch and, of course, Queen Bey)! Each song keeps me running and lowkey dancing (in my head) on beat; totally takes the burden out of exercise. Love it!

  • Brittney Cato November 4, 2015

    Power Run!!

  • Ava November 4, 2015

My favorite Spotify Running playlist is Electronic Moves!
The beats keep me motivated to keep going without thinking twice. The playlist features songs that I would want to hear while out on the weekend with friends.
I am also new to running (after months of my boyfriend begging for me to be his running partner!) Nothing beats going along the river through Chelsea/Meatpacking!

  • Amanda November 4, 2015

My favorite is the Blissed Out playlist–sing along pop songs are about the only thing that can distract me from how much I dislike running.

  • Erin November 4, 2015

My favorite Spotify playlist is one that I made! I titled it “Kanye’s New, New Workout Plan”. I love it because it’s music that I love that has both inspiring lyrics as well as an upbeat tempo that can keep me running at a consistent and strong pace. I am a bit hip hop-obsessed so my playlist always has an ample amount of Drake, Kanye and Kendrick. I try to keep it updated and fresh as often as possible because a fresh and exciting playlist means a fresh and exciting workout.

  • Nikki November 4, 2015

My favorite spotify running playlist is Nike Running Ready Set Go Run!! Always updated and great beats to run to!

  • June November 4, 2015

Our favorite is the Spotify Mood Booster playlist, it’s our favorite thing to play while unwinding to cocktails after getting home from a long day at work!

  • Christine Mooney November 4, 2015

Nike Running Tempo Mix – goes perfectly with my interval runs where mix up paces between songs. It’s helped my endurance so much that I just PR’d in a 5k while listening to it! Been running to Spotify for years now but that playlist was a game changer for sure.

  • Samaria November 5, 2015

My favorite Spotify playlist is the “TopHits Playlist” I play it on 190 tempo and work till i can’t go anymore. I love that I can focus on my workout and Spotify handles the music.

  • Sarah November 5, 2015

My favorite Spotify playlist is the “Recommended for you” playlist. I like to workout to familiar music because it keeps me going faster and better.

  • Teko November 5, 2015

    Throwback Hits

  • Mara November 5, 2015

My favorite Spotify running playlist is a mix of Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Hillary Duff, and Ashlee Simpson lol. Nothing like tbt female empowerment from the early 2000’s to make you kick butt on your workout.

  • Linda November 5, 2015

I like the Fit, Fast, Fun! playlist on Spotify for songs that get me going and push me to go go go!

  • Reene November 5, 2015

When I run during the evening I like a smooth easy beat, stuff they play on Spotify’s “Evening Acoustic”. When I run during the day I need to get pumped so I’ll usually put on “Hit The Gym Hard”!
    Love the site.

  • Isabella Vitaliano November 6, 2015

The Get your body right playlist by Spotify it has the best throw backs and get me so PUMPED. Or if I’m doing a nice leisure run I like “Night Rush by Spotify as well, and “Indie workout” is always a good listen to while I’m running!!

  • Jessica Collins November 6, 2015

My favorite Spotify playlist is the “Wild & Free Workout” playlist. The perfect line up to get me out of my own thoughts (I too get runners anxiety) and get me lost in the music while I explore the city of Austin on the hike and bike trail!

  • Deidre Frager November 6, 2015

The Power Run playlist keeps me at the tempo I love for short runs and motivates me up the hills of Kansas City!

  • Alyssa November 6, 2015

“Endorphin Rush”, with a mix like Tame Impala and Kanye is always a good go-to. Especially because running in NYC can feel almost like an obstacle course, dynamic chord progressions help with my speed and – sometimes necessary – agility.

  • Maz November 7, 2015

I personally love Tropical Morning. I love tropical house in general, but that playlist integrates upbeat jazzy elements and really bright sounds that help me when I need energy to run or do Pilates!

  • LRS November 7, 2015

My favorite spotify playlist for running is my own but “HIIT High Intensity Tracks” is a close second!

  • Belinda Karlie November 7, 2015

Rap Caviar made me a pseudo Olympic runner. It’s a trifecta of trap music, RnB and Drake (yes, Drake has his own genre). Its got Fetty for my warm up, Travis Scott and Dej Loaf get get me popping mid-stride and Drake is the best for my cool down

  • Elle November 7, 2015

I love all the different Throwback playlists that they have and I pick depending on my mood!

  • Claire November 7, 2015

The chase! Makes me feel like I’m in an action movie and keeps me moving

  • Julie November 7, 2015

Spotify’s Be Bold. Or Italic. Never Regular.

    Dope dope dope

  • Val T November 9, 2015

My favorite Spotify playlist is the “Morning Run” playlist. I usually start my day at 5am, so I need something upbeat and uplifting to start my day. Great music is so essential to me when I am running, so this playlist is essential to me every morning…. It’s also a great way to get my mind off of the clock.

  • Kylie Meek November 9, 2015

I always tend to make my own playlists but get inspiration from SoulCycle’s Spotify playlists as well as my instructors’ playlists! They always have the best combo of upbeat, high tempo jams as well as some intense emotional slow down songs for when you’re completing your run. I love feeling all the feels so a combo mix is great for running. Right now my ‘November’ playlist has everything from CHVRCHES to Kanye West (and everything in between). Check out Andra Day’s new song- Rise Up. It’s incredible!!! Cheers xx

  • Becca November 9, 2015

One of my favorites is the GO! playlist. It keeps me focus and motivated throughout my runs. Spotify Running has been a great way for me to train and hit new PR’s and of course listen to new tracks. Such a great app!

  • Francheska de alejandro December 8, 2015

“Morning run”in mid tempo helps me fall in my stride. I love this feature on spotify.

  • Allison December 10, 2015

Finding the Spotify running playlists has seriously improved my running and the mental game around it. I always thought I was someone who just couldn’t do more than a 5k a day, and the music I was listening to was in no way motivating me to do anything further! I’ve been listening to the Ellie Goulding running playlist on Spotify ad nauseum and it’s kept me motivated and running further than I thought I could. Def the cure to people who think running is boring. 😉

  • Yuka Nagai December 10, 2015

My favorite playlist is Spotify’s WAKE UP – my daily jam for the mornings.

  • Brittany December 29, 2015

I like to make my own using ideas from around the web: lululemon blog, the recent playlist Hannah shared in Self, or what is recommended by Nike training. I also like “Endorphin rush” on Spotify!

  • Hope January 21, 2016

Power Workout by far takes the cake–perfect mix of throwback and current rap and r&b that gets you pumped.
