HBFIT OBSESSIONS: Cozy CandlesDecember 1, 2016 6:27 pm
We are addicted to candles in the HBFIT office. We always have one burning and visitors often comment on how it smells like they’re walking into a spa – and we love it that way. With days getting shorter and the temperature dropping, we always have a candle lit at home as well. We love gifting (and getting) candles, there’s nothing like a certain scent to remember someone by. Because of our obsession and the holiday season, we decided to do a roundup of our office and personal favorites. Read more below!
Boy Smells is the cool new kids on the block, and as soon as we saw the packaging (hint: millennial pink) we knew we’d be hooked on their boutique candles. The company was founded by David Kien and Matthew Herman, who started making candles as a scent experiment. They combined their experiences in design and production to create their home fragrance collection, and they pride their products on being “both familiar and unexpected.” Hand poured in LA, Boy Smells candles are a proprietary blend of beeswax and coconut oil; beautiful and rich–burning. Each scent has been developed to have its own unique expression; notes plucked from a personal catalog of olfactory memories, then evolved and re–expressed in a modern context. Be one of the boys and get one of these in your apartment STAT.

We are all in love with these gorgeous candles. Le Feu De L’eau, was founded by best friends Jo Strettell and Wendy Polish to combine their knowledge of art, beauty, and fragrance. The name translates to “The Fire Of The Water ” because the candles are sculpted underwater. Their fall collection is filled with cozy and delicate scents that are perfect for this time of year. Bonus – these make a great hostess gift!

Chrissy Fichtl founded Apotheke in 2011, when she decided to combine her love for soap making, scent direction and essential oils. She opened her first factory in Brooklyn a year later with her husband, and the company continues to create hand made soaps and candles in small batches today. Chrissy’s company uses essential oils sourced from local farms, as well as coconut-olive oil and natural botanicals in each product. As the company has expanded into skin and body care products, Apotheke’s philosophy remains focused on combining honesty and hard work to create “livable luxury.”

Yael takes pride in infusing her products with spirituality, agricultural sensitivity, and familial customs. red flower candles are vegan, cruelty-free, and make for a refreshing addition to any room. Talima Davis founded Brooklyn Limegreen with inspiration from the fresh, handpicked ingredients from her family’s farm in North Carolina. She wanted to create products that brought her back to her cherished memories of simple ingredients and homemade remedies from her grandmother, which led her to creating the all-natural products of Limegreen. We love that the Brooklyn Limegreen candles are multi-purpose products, as they can also be used as massage oils to moisturize and soften your skin!

When Tamara Mayne opened Brooklyn Candle Studio in her own apartment in 2013, she was a young entrepreneur with an inspiring ambition to create small batch soy candles. Tamara started the company by herself, simply out of the curiosity of candlemaking. Today, she has developed a team in her Brooklyn studio to create her one-of-a-kind, nature-inspired candles. Her candles are made from 100% soy wax, which makes them both eco-friendly and sustainable. The candles are made with phthalate-free fragrances and essential oils, and smell absolutely delicious and their holiday line would make a great gift for anyone!
