1. The Answer is Different For Everyone
First thing’s first- there’s no one answer that applies to every woman out there. As women, we have different hair types, textures, lengths, and levels of thickness, so one piece of advice you once read in a magazine doesn’t necessarily apply to your hair type. Generally speaking, thicker hair can go for longer without a wash, while thin, finer hair should probably be washed more often to avoid too much oil buildup. Oils are vital for your hair health, so we wouldn’t recommend washing seven days a week, but you have to know your own scalp in order to avoid walking around with oily hair week.
2. The Curlier Your Hair, The Less You Need to Wash it
Just like thicker hair should be washed less often, curlier hair can go longer without a wash as well. This is because the natural oils in your scalp don’t travel down your hair as quickly if you have thick curls. On the other hand, girls with thin, straight hair usually notice their hair getting oily faster because the oils travel down their hair shaft at a quicker rate.

Just because you’re wetting your hair in the shower, it doesn’t mean you need to be shampooing every time.
