You’ve done a fabulous job at remaining active over the summer, but it’s almost time to put away the beach volleyball and outdoor yoga mat. However, just because the summer is starting to fade away doesn’t mean your workout and fit bod have to, too! Here are some ways you can begin to revamp your workout for the fall season.

30 Minute Indoor Workouts

The cold weather blues might begin to settle in when the weather quickly turns from sunny to rainy. In order to maintain your workout momentum, have a few 30-minute workouts on hand that you can complete in the comfort of your own home.

  • Quadriplex or Opposite Arm and Leg: On all fours, raise your right arm and left leg, and hold for 30 seconds. Do twenty reps on either side for a great warm-up.

  • Abdominal Crunches Followed by Plank: Do three sets of 30 crunches, and then hold a full plank for 60 seconds.

  • Mountain Climbers: In plank position, cross leg from one side to the other in a quick motion for about sixty seconds (like high knees but on the ground). Do three reps with a 30-second rest in-between.

  • Push Ups and Full-Body Plank, ISO Hold: Do three sets of 15 to 20 pushups on your knees or toes. On your last rep, hold a full body plank for about 60 seconds. Rest for 20 seconds between reps.

  • Standing Stationary Lunge Squat With Three-Second Hold Squats: Do three sets of 20 lunges on either side. Immediately after, go into a regular squat for a three-second hold.

  • Supermans with Arms Straight Out: Lying flat on your stomach, do an Isometric Superman with your arms and legs elevated and your chest slightly off the ground. Hold for 30 seconds. Do three sets.

Group Fitness Classes

Signing up for a group fitness class can give you the extra boost of motivation that you’ll need to get you through the darker fall days while remaining fit and healthy. Try one (or all!) of these great fitness classes for fall:

  • Spinning: Burn 500 to 700 calories at one of your local spinning or cycle classes while being motivated in a group setting (with music) to keep on pedaling!

  • Hot Yoga: Hot yoga is great for those cold, rainy days that make you feel like staying indoors. Get your body temperature up while getting a good workout and stretch in, along with mood-lifting breathing and meditation.

  • Barre Class: Barre fitness classes will help you get you toned by targeting the butt, legs and core with tiny, micro-movements.

Brave the Storm with Protective Gear

If you’re a runner or you don’t want to throw away your outdoor workouts come fall, consider braving the storm and continuing on with your summertime exercise routines. Here are some fall workout gear options to keep you moving (and toning!) outdoors:

  • Saucony Xodus 6.0 GTX Waterproof Running Shoes: Taking a jog in the rain can be a great experience—until your socks get soggy! Get the best of autumn trail running by lacing up a pair of waterproof running shoes. Gripped with GORE-TEX construction and an External Bedrock Outsole, your feet will be well-protected on your run through the park.

  • Nike Windrunner: Water-repellent, lightweight and fashionable, this jacket from Nike is sure to keep you protected throughout the fall months. Throw it on over a light tank or even a long sleeved shirt—this jacket has mesh lining for ultimate breathability so you won’t overheat.

  • PEARL IZUMI BARRIER HEADBAND: RUNNING WITH A HAT ON CAN GET TOO HOT, BUT IT’S STILL NICE TO KEEP YOUR EARS WARM ON THOSE COOL AUTUMN MORNINGS. COVER THEM UP WITH A SIMPLE HEADBAND LIKE THIS ONE.

  • Nike+ SportWatch: A gadget like the Nike Sportwatch will keep you moving, allowing you to track your distance and calories burned. It even offers your encouraging “good job!” messages. It’s perfect for any season, really.

With this many fitness options to keep your exercise routine and health on track throughout the fall, you’ll find that revamping your workouts is likely much easier than you thought. Now all you’ve got to do is bundle up and get moving.
