Don’t worry, be happy… if it were only that easy! Friday, October 10th was World Mental Health Day. And while the day has come and gone, I feel the need to acknowledge the importance of the day. HBFIT is not only about eating clean and working out but also focuses on taking care of ones mind. One’s mental health is just as important as physical health. It’s also crucial that we are sensitive and compassionate to those who struggle with mental health illnesses. The Dali Lama once said, “love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” In honor of World Mental Health Day, I thought I would share a few personal tips on how I keep my mind healthy, happy and HBFIT.
Friends: Surround yourself with positive, inspiring and happy people. Happiness is contagious!
Talk: I know this is much easier said than done, but don’t hide your feelings. It is better to talk about the issues that makes one unhappy, anxious or stressed. In doing so, it can make you feel a lot better about the situation. So if you have an issue talk to your friend, parent, teacher or even your pet… get talking!
Reflect: Spend a few minutes each night thinking about the things that make you happy. Then focus on those things, maybe even write them in a journal so you can review them when you need a pick-me-up
Exercise: On days when you’re really down it can be hard to even get out of bed but, exercising pumps endorphins into your body and endorphins make you happy. Even a quick walk around the block can help!
