Passover and Easter fall on the same weekend, Mercury & Jupiter are in retrograde and the full moon is this weekend. I have no fucking idea what that’s supposed to mean, but what I do know is that I’m having all the feels. Between the cosmic shifts and this specific time of year, I have some of my fondest memories of my grandfather around Passover.
Passover is the Jewish holiday that celebrates the liberation of the Jewish people from Slavery in Egypt. We tell the story of Exodus to commemorate our history, and to remind us to act with intention towards other marginalized people now that we are free. My grandfather had his own way of doing things and made his own traditions including opening the door for Elijah at the beginning of the Seder instead of doing it at the end. My grandpa Tree’s whole point was that Elijah was welcomed to eat and partake in the Seder with everyone and that they were more than shelter, they were a community.
It feels especially moving this year with the growing global communities coming together in the wake of the #MarchForOurLives and in the fight for justice for Alton Sterling.
