Work & Play with Dria Murphy

One of the best things about living in NYC is everyone’s philosophy towards work and play. We work hard and we play hard, but sometimes it can be hard to flip the switch, especially if you’re your own boss. In our new series, Work & Play we’re highlighting amazing women who on the outside seem to have it all, but behind the scenes are grinding and hustling every day. First up we have Dria Murphy of Alise Collective, who is sharing a little about her career, best travel tips, and how she focuses on self care throughout it all.

Tell us a little about what you do!

I am the founder of a PR and branding company, Alise Collective. My clients consist of likeminded brands and individuals in the fashion, tech, fitness, and lifestyle space that I personally believe in. No day is the same in my world. I do everything from brand partnerships and special event ideation, to influencer outreach and traditional public relations.

What is a day in the life like?

No day is the same for me. I like to start most mornings with a workout at the Bari Studio usually hosting host editors and clients. The rest of my day is filled with meeting new and current clients, emailing press, shooting social media content, sometimes an event space walk thru or putting together a brand partnership! Some days don’t end until late with editor dinners and client events. New York City never has a night off and when you run your own business neither do you!

How often do you travel?

As much as I can! I am constantly on the go and wouldn’t have it any other way. I am lucky that I can work from almost anywhere.

What’s always in your suitcase?

I will not travel without probiotics. Traveling takes a huge toll on my body, and considering how often I do it, I need to make sure that I keep myself balanced. Some probiotics and a lot a lot of water keep me in check.

Do you pack the night before or do you make a list and check it twice?

As much as I would love to say I make a list ahead of time, I am always packing last minute due to time! I almost never check a bag anymore so I have gotten good at packing light.

What are your essential travel beauty products?

I recently started paying much more attention to my skincare routine, especially when I’m away from home. The different temperatures and air qualities really throw my skin off and I try to keep a strict skincare regimen to keep it clear and bright. I love sticking sheet masks in the mini fridge at the hotel I stay at so after a long day (especially in the summer) I can relax with a cold and refreshing mask. One if my favorites is Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Sheet Mask. During a flight I am constantly spraying my face with Linne Refresh Face Mist to keep my skin from getting dry. I also reapply Ogee Lip Oil and Caudalie ‘The Cream’ throughout a flight. My new go to every morning, traveling or not, is SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF. It is truly one of my favorite skincare products. It brightens my skin like nothing else.

How do you focus on self-care while you’re away from your routine?

For me, alone time to focus my mind is very important. I am constantly meeting new people and entertaining clients and press so to have downtime alone is extremely valuable. Exercise is also key for me. Not only for the physical benefits but mental. There will always be a to do list, and enjoying an hour a day for yourself isn’t going to change that. Taking an hour to focus on your body is important to keep you mentally sane.

What upcoming trips do you have that you’re excited about?

I am traveling to Israel for the first time in October and couldn’t be more excited about my trip. I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Reality Style and Design program that travels to Tel Vivi. I will not only get to see and experience the culture but have the opportunity to work on my leadership development with various industry leasers.  I also can’t wait to get back to California for the holidays. I was born and raised in San Francisco and love visiting home a few times a year when I can.

Thanks Dria! And don’t forget to check out her takeover on Instagram all Labor Day Weekend on our stories!
